Getting Ready for Company

It is still hot here in Arizona so the holidays are not at the top of our priority list…but they should be. If you want to spruce up your home for company this coming holiday season, you had better get started.

The design process is just that, a process.

It begins with evaluating your needs to determine the scope of the project. A designer and/or architect can be very helpful here.

Once your needs/wants/desires have been identified, then come up with a budget…a realistic one. (always have a slush fund for the unexpected of about 15%)

Now that you know how much you are willing to spend, the bidding process starts.

Get at least 3 bids from licensed, bonded, and insured contractors (do your research!). Make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

Meet with all the contractors, compare your bids to make sure everything you want is included. Then select the contractor that is the best fit for your project.

Next is the fun part…and the stressful part…selecting your materials and finishes. It can be overwhelming due to the enormous selection out there.

Get samples, samples and more samples. Put your finishes together and make sure they work.

Embrace the dust. Remodeling is dusty and there is no avoiding it. Drape your furniture, close off the work area with plastic and get ready for a mess. It will be beautiful when it’s finished so don’t get OCD now.

Once the job is completed, go away for a few days. Walking back in to a freshly remodeled space after being away, allows you to appreciate it from a fresh perspective.

ENJOY!
